Skiing is not only a hobby, it's also a sport! Over the years ski racing has grown increasingly popular. Many people compete on a smaller scale at their local mountains against other schools. There is also the club level which is more intense, requires more training, and better ski gear. There is also racing at the Olympic level. This is the highest level and it requires tons of training, both on and off the mountain. Skiing at the Olympic level also requires a calm state of mind due to the fact that your're flying down the mountain at a high speed. Even though all three levels differ on many terms, they are similar. One similarity is that there is a fear of getting injured. You always have to be careful and aware of your surroundings, that includes icy patches or areas that look rocky.
